Jamie Harkins, an artist in New Zealand, is best known for his paintings of surrealist landscapes, but it is his 3D beach art that has been getting him a lot of attention. Whether it's locally or online, people are amazing at his amazing sandy creations.

He collaborates with other artists and create 3D beach masterpieces by using techniques similar to sidewalk chalk artists.
The technique is known as anamorphosis.
Initially, the image is distorted, but when viewed from a certain vantage point a 3D effect on a 2D surface is achieved, making Harkins' works of art jump out at you.
In an interview, Harkins explains: “We’ve seen other people doing stuff on beaches, but it’s always been geometric, flat shapes, like a pattern, so we thought we’d get into the whole 3D thing. And I kind of like the fact that it disappears at the end of the day when the tide comes in. It makes it impermanent.”
Now, I can no longer be impressed by measly sandcastles. This 3D beach art is just too awesome to be topped!
