Move Over, Ronald: McDonald's Japan Has A New Mascot & He's Weird AF

by N/A, 9 years ago | 1 min read

Way to keep us on our toes, Japan.

contest food weird Japan campaign Marketing Non-Premium giveaways

There's a new McDonald's social media campaign that could only be pulled off in Japan. It contains a golden chicken McNugget, a chicken-McNugget thief reminiscent of the Hamburglar (more on that later) and two new dipping sauces—creamy cheddar cheese and fruits curry.

To celebrate the new saucy goodness, the fast-food chain is giving away an 18-karat golden chicken McNugget. Even though only one person will walk away with the 50-gram golden chicken chunk, 21 runner ups will receive a 5-pack of nuggets for 39 days.

If for some reason the golden chicken McNugget wasn't enough for you, McDonald's also introduced a new mascot to help promote the sauces.

Gold rush campaign participants must try to unmask Kaito Nuggets (aka Phantom Thief Nuggets) through hints on social media giving away his whereabouts. He'll be making appearances at various McDonald's restaurants across the country, as well as sporting and leisure events during the month of June.

Hopefully he'll take a trip to the U.S. so he can show us his sweet dance moves...

The masked caper even has his own commercial. I don't know whether I should root for him or just question his existence...

Sure, Kaito Nuggets is kinda cool—but he'll never be as cool as the Japanese version of Ronald McDonald.
