This Guide To Befriending Felines Will Basically Make You A Cat Whisperer

by N/A, 9 years ago | 1 min read

If you're anything like me then you've tried and failed to make friends with cats many times. Friend's cats, relative's cats, stray cats, the type doesn't matter. You're always greeted with either a bolt into the next room or a fuzzy swat to the face. Well, today's the day all that changes. Here are six steps to breaking through the icy exterior of any potential feline friend.

Cats Pets Animals How to DIY

1. Approach With Caution

Approach the cat as if it's a bomb you're trying to disarm, a furry bomb with a tail and cold disposition. Move slowly and without making any sudden movements. Cats can usually tell what you're up to, and anything too aggressive could cause an explosion.

2. Lure It In With A Treat

Once you're comfortably within the cats vicinity, slyly break the ice with a treat. Nothing says "I love you, you mercurial but adorable fuzz ball." like a treat.

3. Wait For It To Sit Or Lie Down

Doing this does not mean the cat has let its guard down, but it does put the it in prime position for step four.

4. Scratch Its Fuzzy Lil' Neck

The fluffy part of a cat's neck is the one area that they can't reach themselves. Some hard scratching here basically buys you a one-way-ticket to Purrsville.

*WARNING* The Cat May Demand Additional Scratching

Don't be surprised if the cat makes you work a little for it's love. In fact, expect it to.

5. Play Hard To Get. Cats Hate Being Chased.

Like any good courtship, befriending a cat takes time, so don't become too discouraged if it loses interest and moves away from you. Patience is key. Wait for it to come back around, or bait it with another treat.

6. Rinse and Repeat Until You Have A Dedicated Feline Companion

And there you have it! It might take a few tries, but no cat will be able to resist your charms forever, especially if you're using a lot of treats. You may still get the occasional paw to the face, but your persistence will be rewarded love, affection, and an endless supply of adorable cat videos.
