14 Things Every College Kid Experiences When They Come Home For Winter Break

by N/A, 10 years ago | 3 min read

Winter break = free food, Netflix and paralyzing self-doubt.

College Family friends life Non-Premium

1. A fully stocked pantry.

There is nothing more glorious than coming home to a fully stocked pantry that you have free rein on. Go crazy! You don't have to worry about sneaking some chips from your crazy roommate. Cheers to gaining another Freshman 15! Thanks Mom!

2. Your parents cater to all your demands (at least for the first few days).

You haven't been home in a couple months, and your parents are just so excited to see you they basically go HAM catering to your needs. Laundry? Check. Cooking your favorite meals? Check. They don't even put up a fuss about eating in your bedroom or being on your cellphone.

3. The excitement of reuniting with your high school friends is a spiritual experience.

You haven't seen each other in SO long, you can't believe you're actually hanging out with them again in person. Even if you haven't really talked much while you've been away at college or if you've become different people, high school friends will always have a special bond. Just think about it, they're the people who've been with you through your most awkward stages.

5. But when you run into other people from high school, you make a beeline for it.

GOTTA GO, BYEEEEEE.

4. You and your BFFs become inseparable again. You have so many people to gossip about and so little time, ya know?!

Facebook stalking becomes your main bonding activity.

6. Unless you run into your high school crush - then you try to play it cool.

LOOK AT ME, I'M HOT SH*T NOW.

7. You get sick of answering all of your family's never-ending questions.

Are you single? Why are you single? How are you classes? Do you have a summer internship yet? #KillMe

8. You're forced to subtly find ways to consume alcohol so your family doesn't think college has turned you into an alcoholic.

I don't drink....

*Stashes bottle of wine in purse for later*

9. Netflix becomes your priority...

NO, I DON'T NEED A BREAK NETFLIX.

10. ...so does sleeping.

Often 'til noon.

11. You hear about that one kid from your hometown who has created a successful business at the age of 20, and you begin to freak the fuck out.

WTF am I doing with my life? What am I even having for dinner tonight?!

12. You start to miss random things about college, so you group message all your school friends.

Is it just me or do you guys miss the dining hall ice cream bar too?

13. But the thought of packing up all your shit again and not having your parents around to do things for you stresses you out.

14. Eh, who are you kidding? When you set foot back at college and see your friends everything is OK again. At least until spring break.

But for now, BACK TO FREEDOM.
