The snubfin dolphin is actually pretty cute, despite its unusual appearance.Â
A completely adorable and rare species of dolphin was spotted off the coast of Australia this week.

The snubfin dolphin is known for its rounded nose and seemingly happy appearance.
The dolphin was spotted by a wildlife ranger who had never seen one in the 12 years she's worked for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Emma Schmidt caught this photo after spotting among the snubfin among 12 humpback dolphins. It's believed to be a part of a pod that swims in the Hinchinbrook Channel.
Snubfins get their names because of their small triangular dorsal fins.

However, their rounded heads are probably their most notable feature.

The species is threatened by coastal development and fishing gear, like many kinds of coastal dolphins.
