These Tattoos Are Much More Than Just Body Art. Their Purpose is Healing and Powerful

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

For victims of domestic abuse - or any physical abuse - the scars and markings they sustained can serve as lifelong reminders of what they suffered through. And for all of them, they're events they'd rather not be reminded of.

After hearing heartbreaking stories of abuse like these, tattoo artist Flavia Carvalho decided to do whatever she could to help.

Carvahlo began a project she calls “A Pele da Flor," which means "The Skin of the Flower."
Through it, she provides free tattoos for victims of any kind of domestic abuse...
And covers up their scars and injury markings with beautiful, custom works of their choosing.
Most of the women she treats are deeply affected by the stinging visual reminder of their scars.
So to have them not only completely covered up, but turned into something uniquely beautiful, is beyond touching for them. It's empowering.
Carvalho even gives free tattoos to women who have had mastectomies - an equally impactful gesture.
In all, the altruistic tattoo artist has done dozens of free - and beautiful - pieces, and will continue to empower victims of domestic abuse through her selfless work.

Check out more of her beautiful work on her Facebook page!
