Talented photographer and artist Jane Long has a knack for the imaginative.
In her ongoing series of brilliantly retouched photos, Long takes WWI-era family pictures and revitalizes them by adding color and flare of surreal elements to them in a way that truly breathes new life into them.
She doesn't just colorize them...


She makes them into entirely new, dream-like scenes.


If you'll notice though...


Not many - or really any - of the children featured in the pictures are smiling.

And that's understandable...

Because in a time of war, there wasn't a lot to smile about.


That's part of of why Long loves revitalizing the photos so much.

She gets to bring color and new, reimagined life to moments of a darker time.


And in the end, she pays homage to the ones who fought through it all.
