Many Women in the 1930s Followed This Guide to Undressing for Their Husbands

by N/A, 10 years ago | 1 min read

This guide to undressing like a seductress was created for 1930's wives and it seems too ridiculous to be true.

"The School of Undressing" was developed in 1937 by a burlesque dancer who wanted to teach women the art of undressing.

LIFE magazine featured an instructional spread stating that it was essential to a happy marriage.

One burlesque performer demonstrated how a women shouldn't undress.
Another demonstrated how to do it the right way.
The course featured 6 classes which cost $30 total. 48 women attended.
Allen Gilbert, Director of the School for Undressing told LIFE that careless and sloppy wives were a cause for divorce.
Instructors slid out of their clothes in one fluid movement, which was called "nightgown technique."
This looks about right.
